Background

SAP and Microsoft announced a major expansion of their partnership with the launch of SAP Business Data Cloud Connect for Microsoft Fabric. Microsoft announced this at Ignite in San Francisco, taking a big step to help companies use their data more efficiently for analytics and AI.

The new capability enables bi-directional, zero-copy data sharing between SAP Business Data Cloud and Microsoft Fabric. This means organizations can access SAP’s semantically rich data products instantly, without the need to move or replicate large data sets. Both companies said this will help businesses gain faster insights and build AI solutions with more accuracy.

Muhammad Alam of SAP SE said the partnership helps customers use data to create real business value. Scott Guthrie, Executive Vice President at Microsoft, added that companies across industries are speeding up their AI plans, and this integration gives them a trusted base to build analytics and AI tools.

SAP data will now flow directly into Microsoft OneLake, the core of Microsoft Fabric’s AI-ready data platform. Data from OneLake will also be available inside SAP Business Data Cloud, allowing enterprises to merge SAP and non-SAP data in one place. With Power BI, Fabric’s data tools, and Microsoft 365 integration, users will be able to work with SAP data in familiar apps such as Excel and Teams.

The companies said the new integration will help businesses build advanced analytics, develop intelligent AI agents, and enable collaboration between Microsoft 365 Copilot and SAP’s Joule assistant.

SAP Business Data Cloud Connect for Microsoft Fabric is expected to be generally available in Q3 2026.
