Background:

A delegation of fifteen female tech entrepreneurs from Bulgaria recently visited Leeds to explore new business and investment opportunities across the Yorkshire region. The three-day visit, backed by the Department for Business & Trade, FinTech North, and the Mayor of West Yorkshire, was organized by the law firm Mills & Reeve. The initiative aimed to build international connections and show opportunities for women-led tech businesses outside London.

During their stay, the delegation participated in a series of events organized by Mills & Reeve, including a FinTech North conference, networking sessions at Barclays Eagle Lab, and roundtable discussions with FSB Director Sharon Jandu OBE. The sessions gave visitors useful insights and helped them make new connections in the UK tech community.

Maria Sivkova, Managing Director of Conversion Century and a delegate, emphasized the opportunities in regional UK cities. “Our clients are increasingly finding great opportunities outside London, particularly in cities like Leeds, Manchester, and Birmingham,” she said.

Local leaders also supported the initiative. Alex Beardsley of The Lifted Project said the visit showed that women are not only involved but are taking the lead.

Sharon Jandu OBE added that regions like Yorkshire offer strong networks, excellent support, and substantial resources for international collaboration.

Alex Newman, Partner at Mills & Reeve, said, “We’re proud to showcase Yorkshire’s strengths internationally and help women tech leaders find opportunities in the region.” The visit is another step in growing global business connections and supporting gender equality in the tech industry.
